Not played yet: this article is based on announcements and the sources listed below. We'll review the games once they've been on our table.

An airship, a travel company and a world full of wonders: in Braided Skies you’re a captain in the Shallows, building the greatest magical travel company in the Northlands. It’s the first game set in Andrew Bosley’s new world, Smoking Bones.

The facts

  • 1–5 players, 60–90 minutes, ages 14+, with a solo mode (separate rulebook and 17 Automa cards)
  • Designer: Dan Germain, art and world: Andrew Bosley
  • Publisher: Stonemaier Games, German edition by Feuerland Spiele (date and price still open)
  • Sold direct by Stonemaier since October 14, 2026; shipping to the US from late October, to Europe from mid-November; in stores from early December
  • First game in a planned trilogy set in this world

How it plays

You explore land and sky, pick up tourists and harvest tapstones, the magical gems that power the Northlands. Along the way you build outposts, hire crew and outfit your ship. That pays off in big “recall” turns when everything fires at once. Discovered wonders give instant bonuses and lasting upgrades. Most fame wins. It’s a standalone game, not a campaign.

At SPIEL Essen 2026

According to its own page, Stonemaier is bringing “a small quantity” to Essen. Stonemaier is in Hall 3, booth 3R400, Feuerland in Hall 3, booth 3Q300. We didn’t find details on demos or fair prices.

Our take

We haven’t played it yet. We know Andrew Bosley from his art in Everdell, and Stonemaier is the publisher behind Wingspan. If Everdell’s artwork is what hooked you, Braided Skies is one to remember.
