Not played yet: this article is based on announcements and the sources listed below. We'll review the games once they've been on our table.

The game that puts friendships on hold for an evening: Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game. Now publisher Ghost Galaxy has announced a new edition.

The facts

  • Who: Publisher Ghost Galaxy has signed a licensing deal with Universal and is working on a new edition.
  • When: A crowdfunding campaign is planned for 2027.
  • Still unknown: price, release date, contents, and who is working on the update.
  • The original: released in 2008 by Fantasy Flight Games, designed by Corey Konieczka. It got three expansions: Pegasus, Exodus and Daybreak.
  • A connection: Ghost Galaxy CEO Christian T. Petersen oversaw the original release back then. The goal, he says, is to make a great game design even better.

What’s it about?

You play the crew of the Galactica fleeing the Cylons. You fight to survive together, but some of you are secretly Cylons, and some players only find out halfway through. Suspicion, votes and crises you can only solve together are what make it tick.

Our take

We haven’t played Battlestar Galactica; the old edition never made it onto our shelf. In the community it’s known as a classic traitor game, but also as a long night. For our family table with a 6- and a 10-year-old, it’s probably not the one. For a game night with friends, very much so. We’ll keep an eye on the campaign.
