Pretty Mosaics, but the Scoring Has Teeth: Gaudí

Not played yet: this article is based on announcements and the sources listed below. We'll review the games once they've been on our table.

Antoni Gaudí left his mark all over Barcelona: curving shapes, nature as a model, mosaics made from shards. Gaudí by Dani Garcia turns that into a game where you follow Gaudí’s life and lay your own trencadís mosaics. Trencadís is Catalan for roughly “lots of little broken things.”

The facts

  • 1–4 players, 60–100 minutes, with a solo mode
  • Age: 10+ according to Devir, 12+ according to HUCH!
  • Designer: Dani Garcia, art by Edu Valls
  • Publisher: Devir, German edition by HUCH!
  • According to the fair’s exhibitor directory: €35 from Devir (release November 2026), €35.99 from HUCH! (October 2026); Devir’s US shop lists $49.99

How it plays

The game lasts three rounds. A chandelier hangs in the middle of the board, and you move around it. Where you stop decides your action: draw cards, play cards, collect mosaic tiles, or climb the chimneys on your board. A round ends when everyone has gone all the way around.

You score in three areas: Nature, Catalonia and Religion. The twist: only your two weakest areas count. Go all in on one thing and you lose. Balance wins.

At SPIEL Essen 2026

Devir is showing Gaudí in Hall 3, booth 3D600, and HUCH! has the German edition in Hall 6, booth 6B300. We didn’t find details on demos or fair prices.

Our take

We haven’t played it yet. Dani Garcia is known for Barcelona, Windmill Valley and Daitoshi. “Only your weakest scores count” is a wonderfully mean rule that makes everyone think. Of all the games on this list, Gaudí looks the most likely to work at a family table with a 10-year-old.
